Whatever It Takes

12/20/12

Do whatever it takes–that’s my 2013 mantra.

It was inspired by one of my clients.  He’s a newly single dad whose 9 year old daughter came to him and said, “Dad, can you do a French braid?”  My client, who’s a guy’s guy with a buzz cut, laughed hysterically–inside–and with a seriousness that would have done a Marine proud, said, “Hmmm, I don’t think so.  Let’s look it up.”  And together they found a u-tube French braid tutorial.  The next time I saw him there was a picture on his smart phone of his daughter with a perfect French braid.  This guy is my hero (and I suspect his daughter feels the same way).

Incidentally, shout out to my son, Ry, who really is a Marine–props to you for proudly wearing the princess tiara at Emily’s request during our last skyping session.  You too are my hero!

My last blog talked about turning whining into an art form .  This one’s going to be short and sweet.  Instead of whining I want to spend 2013 doing whatever it takes to be the person I want to be.  That will probably mean talking a bit less and listening, hearing, seeing, feeling, sensing, being and doing a bit more.   Voila!!  Instant reduction in whining.

Who’s your hero?   What behavior or characteristic have you admired so much that you can’t forget it?   Can you translate it into a one-liner to light up 2013?
