In The Authentic Life author Ezra Bayda poses a question first suggested by Nietzsche. It stopped me in my tracks this morning. “What would I do in this situation if I had to live my life in the exact same way, over and over and over again, for all eternity?”
Bayda points out that the the consequences for a choice that is eternal are quite different from the consequences when we simply ask ourselves what would I do if I had only a month or a year to live?
Eternity is a long time to live with something I’m just putting up with or settling for.
The second question comes from the title song ‘Lost Stars’ from the movie Begin Again. The question is, “Are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?”
So here’s my question, the third question, for you. Are the choices you’re making today lighting up the dark, for you or for anyone else?
Much love,
