December 13, 2011
This came in this morning from Seth Godin (really brilliant marketer/entrepreneur).
Insulate yourself…
from anonymous angry people
Expose yourself to art you don’t yet understand
Precisely measure the results that are important to you
Stay blind to the metrics that don’t matter
Fail often
Ship
Lead, don’t manage so much
Seek out uncomfortable situations
Make an impact on the people who matter to you
Be better at your baseline skills than anyone else
Copyedit less, invent more
Give more speeches
Ignore unsolicited advice
Talk about a call to be courageous!! So easy to read, intellectualize and feel motivated. Which invariably fools me into thinking I’m doing something (when I’m not). So this morning I’m going to practice what I preach—get out of my mind and into my life! I’m picking one of the above to act on. And I think I’ll pick the one that makes me want to not push send. It will probably give me the biggest bang for my buck! FAIL OFTEN.
I’m going to make this my mantra for the rest of the month of December. I will notice when the fear of failure clouds what I want to do, and do whatever it takes to move forward in spite of my fear. I’ll jump over it, crawl under it, side-step it, barrel through it. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
